Protection from Radiation

You are now being exposed to radiation that has leaked from the Japanese reactor at Fukushima. So far the levels of exposure outside of Japan are low, but they will be increasing. Food sources are now being contaminated and water sources may be next. Japan is at a critical point of possible full meltdowns in multiple reactors and an escalating catastrophe.

There are three levels of protection you can employ.

Potassium iodide can be taken in large doses in case of massive exposure to protect the thyroid gland from radioactive iodine. Do not use this now. This is a drastic procedure that may have serious side effects. It is not needed at this time. You may want to have this on hand for an emergency (adult dose is 135 mg, children ages 3-12 years 65 mg, preschoolers 1-3 years old 32 mg).

Begin using other supplements now for protection from possible radiation exposure at lower levels.


Take a chelating agent that removes metals and radioactive elements from the body. These chelators include chlorella (a green algae) or spirulina other blue green algae and kelp (5 tablets as a daily dose). These are available at health food stores. Other chelating agents include pectin (modified citrus pectin) and zeolite, both of which can be ordered online (5 grams of powder/day).


Second are antioxidants that will promote detoxification. You can take antioxidants directly or take supplements that encourage the body’s own detoxification mechanisms.

Potent antioxidants include fresh organic fruits and vegetables, CoQ10, vitamin C, vitamin D (5000 IU), grape seed extract (resveratrol), and astaxanthin from krill oil.

The primary antioxidant produced by our bodies is glutathione. This can be taken directly as reduced liposomal glutathione (150 mg/day), or stimulated by taking n-acetylcysteine (500-600 mg/day), or milk thistle (silymarin).

A simple program will include a chelating agent such as chlorella, citrus pectin, or zeolite, and antioxidant support.

A healthy intestinal tract is necessary for the excretion of toxins. Taking a probiotic (and prebiotic) supplement will help establish normal intestinal function. Eating plenty of fiber in the form of fruits and vegetables will also encourage elimination of toxins.

    Just wondering if you are recommending this to people on the west coast or throughout North America. I live in Southern Ontario, just wondering if you wond recommend this treatment for people in my area as well. I cannot find any info on the levels of radiation in my area!

      Okay, I just read your previous post. We already supplement ourselves and 3 children with probiotics, cod liver oil, Vit D and C every day. I will look into adding a chelating product. Thanks again!

      We have been taking all of the above but I am concerned about taking cod liver oil anymore. If the water from Alaska to California is now showing up with radiation then wouldn’t the cod have high levels of radiation. The source I get it from says they have been testing for radiation but I just stands to reason it would be affected. Any thoughts?

      Hi there Lianne – It’s reassuring to know someone in my area (S. ON) is also looking out for themselves! Everyone I talk to thinks I’m overreacting and nuts. Would love to exchange information on brands that you may be using.
      Couple of questions for cureguide….this is great information and dosages for adults but my challenge is what dosages are appropriate for children especially at the age of 2.5-3years?
      Also, what is your perspective on using bentonite clay baths & using the clay to wash your veggies & fruit.
      We’ve gone so far as to stop drinking milk and eating fresh cheese do you think this is going to far?

      I think the protocols I recommended are useful for anyone in North America.
      Bentonite clay is also an excellent chelator.
      I don’t think people need to avoid dairy at this time because of radiation
      unless they live in Japan or Hawaii.

    Thanks for the information. I cannot find radiation levels in my area either, although Victoria, British Columbia supposedly has a radiation detector. Is the government covering up data by any chance, or, are the levels truly very low as the news states?

      I don’t trust the government monitoring. Levels continue to rise, although they are still quite low. However you should protect yourself with the protocols I have outlined.

    Are you able to recommend a particular brand of chlorella? I’m using stuff from NSI…but now I have to investigate per your recent instructions to make sure the chlorella itself isnt contaminated…

    Thanks for all the great info, very helpful! The Protocol for Life Balance below is for medical practitioners only, does anyone have any other safe sources? I currently use Sunfood Chlorella from Taiwan, and it came with a report stating no detectable levels of radiation in their product but not sure how we can be certain reports are accurate if the goal is to sell a product. I would love to know safe places to buy kelp or zeolite as well, thanks for your time everyone!

      Hi there, have you heard of Earthrise? It’s grown in US….I bought mine prior to the Japan disaster.  Not sure now if there levels would be different

    Based on the fact that the Japanese government is confirming it is actually 3 nuclear meltdowns would you change your recommendation on potassium iodine at all?  What is your opinion on using Lugol’s solution.  A friend of mine is taking it five days on five days off.  Thank-you.

      Do not take high doses of potassium iodide. You can take around 200 mcg/day,
      not mg doses.
